Overview

Uniquely shaped like the base of a tree trunk, this play structure at Fernvale Link hides a number of playable components which encourage free-form play among kids. They can climb up to the top of the trunk and slide down a fireman’s pole, challenge their sense of balance on the ropes or just chill on the rubber strips.

Inspiration

Rooted in the forms and functions of nature, the Tree Hideout takes inspiration from the way tree trunks and exposed roots become natural playgrounds for children. The branching shapes mimic how trees stretch and split, providing climbing points, shelters, and secret spots. This organic approach encourages imaginative play, just like how kids interact with real trees in forests or parks.

Design

The structure features intersecting angular planes that resemble tree roots rising from the ground. Each opening and surface is deliberately shaped to support different types of movement, climbing, crawling, balancing, or hanging. Materials like timber-textured panels and rope elements blend natural aesthetics with urban play needs. Subtle highlights in lime green add visual contrast while guiding the flow of movement. The result is a sculptural yet functional play element that encourages exploration from all sides.
